LG Electronics USA
Case Study Overview
LG Electronics USA is the North American subsidiary of LG Electronics, responsible for delivering a wide range of innovative consumer and commercial products across the United States. The company offers solutions spanning home appliances, consumer electronics, air conditioning systems, and business technologies, serving both individual consumers and enterprise customers. With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and user-centric design, LG Electronics USA supports a broad network of retailers, distributors, and partners while driving advancements in smart technology and energy-efficient solutions.
“Before Akeneo, managing product data across disconnected systems required significant manual effort and slowed our time to market. With Akeneo, we’ve reduced product data processing time from one week to just two days, while dramatically increasing the scale and richness of the product information we can support.”
The Challenge: Managing Complex Product Data Across Disconnected Systems
LG Electronics USA’s Commercial Air Conditioning (CAC) division faced growing challenges as its portfolio of HVAC solutions expanded in scale and complexity. Product information was sourced from multiple global systems and teams, often arriving in inconsistent formats that required significant manual effort to cleanse, standardize, and prepare for use.
Without a centralized system in place, critical data ranging from technical specifications and engineering documentation to marketing assets was scattered across spreadsheets and disconnected platforms, making it difficult to maintain accuracy and consistency.
This fragmented approach created operational inefficiencies across the organization. Engineering submittals, essential for customer projects and sales enablement, had to be compiled manually by pulling together data from various sources.
The process was time-consuming, error-prone, and heavily dependent on a small group of technical and content specialists. As a result, turnaround times for product readiness and submittal generation were slow, limiting the team’s ability to respond quickly to market demands.
At the same time, the lack of a single source of truth made it challenging to ensure reliable product information across partner and customer channels. Distributors, engineers, and internal teams often struggled to access consistent, up-to-date data, leading to inefficiencies, increased back-and-forth for clarification, and reduced scalability as the product catalog continued to grow.
LG Electronics USA needed a more structured, centralized approach to product information management to improve accuracy, streamline operations, and support future growth.
“By centralizing product information in Akeneo, we’ve improved data accuracy to 99.5% and made it easier for our teams, partners, and customers to access reliable, consistent product content. This has accelerated project specification cycles, reduced back-and-forth, and enhanced the overall customer experience.”
The Solution: Building a Centralized, Scalable Product Information Foundation
To address these challenges, LG Electronics USA implemented Akeneo PIM as the central foundation for managing all product information, establishing a single source of truth across its Commercial Air Conditioning division.
By designing a structured and scalable data model within Akeneo including product families, attribute groups, and reference entities, LG standardized how product specifications, technical documentation, and marketing content are created, organized, and maintained. Validation and governance workflows were also introduced to ensure data accuracy and consistency across all product records.
Akeneo was integrated with both upstream and downstream systems, including global data sources, Digital Asset Management (DAM) platforms, and submittal generation workflows, enabling a seamless flow of enriched product information across the organization.
Additionally, role-based access and collaboration features empowered business users and subject matter experts to directly enrich and manage product data within the platform. This reduced reliance on manual processes and technical teams, while streamlining how product information is prepared, managed, and distributed across partner, sales, and customer channels.
The Result: Faster Time-to-Market, Greater Accuracy, and Scalable Growth
With Akeneo in place, LG Electronics USA achieved significant improvements in both operational efficiency and data quality. Product data processing time was reduced by 71%, shrinking from one week to just two days and enabling faster product readiness and quicker turnaround for engineering submittals.
At the same time, API response and data availability improved dramatically, from one day to just two hours, empowering teams with near real-time access to accurate product information and boosting productivity across engineering, sales, and content functions.
The organization also unlocked new levels of scalability and data richness, expanding from 110 to 1,085 product attributes (an 886% increase) without adding operational overhead.
By centralizing product information in Akeneo, LG achieved 99.5% metadata accuracy, ensuring consistent, reliable data across all downstream systems and partner channels. These improvements enhanced internal collaboration and efficiency and helped to deliver more accurate, complete product information to distributors, partners, and customers, accelerating project timelines, reducing friction, and strengthening overall trust in LG’s product data.
Congratulations to LG Electronics USA for winning the 2026 Digital Foundation Award!
